Ken Vandermark's Polish large ensemble (though not all the musicians are Polish!) is the business...lots of this group to discover on the wonderful Not Two label...formed out of a residency at Alchemia in Krakow (which gave KV time to write...not always easy for such a busy musician)...it is,quite simply,astonishing music and to be listened to with the same intensity as KV's own Territory Band recordings and Peter Brotzmann's Chicago Tentet (in which KV plays)...

Great, great band, The Engines...this live recording (The Green Mill, Chicago) just hits the sweet spot continuously... The playing, the improvising, the interplay, the energy and the verve just don't get better than this for me...all Ken Vandermark associates, all quality guaranteed composers. Lots of exceptional stuff on this label (Dave Rempis' Aerophonic Records) too...check it all out, it's worth your time and effort.
